Change is hard. REALLY HARD.

When we try to change our habits, our subconscious mind often lures us back to our old ways. Because our subconscious mind doesn’t want us to struggle, endure discomfort, or experience any kind of suffering, it plays tricks on us and ultimately tries to sabotage us.

It’ll tell us that our old ways weren’t that bad, and we can start tomorrow. It’ll say, “things are fine as they are” or “you don’t really need to work harder at this” or “you probably won’t be able to achieve that anyway; best not to try.”

If you’ve identified something about your life or yourself that you’d like to change, you MUST:

1️⃣ Celebrate small wins.
2️⃣ Find ways to reward and recognize yourself.
3️⃣ Choose to be proud of yourself for your efforts.
4️⃣ Focus on the journey, not the destination.
5️⃣ Pursue progress over perfection.

If you wait until the finish line to celebrate, you may NEVER reach it.

Remember, giant accomplishments aren’t made because of giant accomplishments.

Rather, giant accomplishments are made because of the accumulation of lots of small, correct choices (over time).

Find joy in your journey. Even when you make mistakes or fail, choose to be proud for trying, exerting effort, and learning from those mistakes.

I encourage clients to count their wins each week. This drives a belief in our abilities to do hard things, overcome adversity, take action, and move things forward. This is turn drives excitement and motivation for the NEXT set of difficult things we’ll need to do to achieve our wildest goals.
