Don’t turn a bad week into a bad month. Don’t turn a bad month into a bad year.

All too often, when people break a habit and fall off the wagon, they spend way too much time lamenting it. They’ll say things like, “Gosh, I just don’t know what happened. I was doing so well.” Or, they’ll set an arbitrary date or time to restart: “I’ll start again after the weekend, on Monday.”

NO. DON’T DO THIS.

Master the simple practice of SIMPLY RESTARTING. It does NOT MATTER if you’re not as fast, as quick, or as able as you were before. It doesn’t matter if you were running an 8 minute mile before your injury and now you can’t run anything less than 10. It doesn’t matter if you were benching 180 at the gym before you got bogged down with a massive work project for a month, didn’t hit the gym, and now you can barely open that pickle jar. It doesn’t matter that you haven’t done WHATEVER in 6 months. Just restart ANYWAY. Start from WHEREVER you’re at.

Stop with the guilt, stop with the shame. Take that very first step at restarting. Channel some “Nike”, and JUST DO IT. Once you start, you can rebuild from there. Or you can just choose to feel proud for even TRYING to get back into it. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to RESTART and nothing is going to improve from sitting around, wishing you hadn’t fallen off in the place. Nothing.
