In January, I stopped a habit that was important to me.
It was late June before I restarted.
Because I’d waited 6 months to restart, it was really difficult.
I wasn’t where I was, when I came back. Now, I wish I’d just restarted SOONER.
Instead of just getting back to it, I spent months:
1) Making excuses for it didn’t matter or why I couldn’t restart
2) Pretending I didn’t care (I did)
3) Overthinking it
4) Worrying and dreading that restarting would be tough
5) Waiting
If you’ve broken a habit (and it’s been months), just RESTART. The longer you wait, the harder it’ll be. As you wait, your old (healthy) habits are being paved over by new (unhealthy) habits. When that happens, restarting is even tougher because you don’t JUST have to start a habit, you also have to break another one.
I can’t tell you how GOOD it feels to RESTART. Not because I’m already seeing great results, but because I know I’m doing the right thing. I’m proud of myself for making the right choices (even when I don’t feel like it). I’m proud of myself for controlling my LEAD measures (and not worrying about the lag measaures just yet).
I’m not where I was when I stopped. But, I’m already better than where I was when I restarted. Remember: it’s OKAY if you’re not where you were when you left off. That’s normal. Our old skills and abilities can come BACK (sometimes faster than we think).
