I bought into a perception that women are supposed to be small. Smaller than I ever was.

I spent years wishing away aspects of my body, and in effect- wishing away aspects of MYSELF.

I never felt beautiful enough- and in turn- good enough. When I saw a picture of me running over the Venice waterways on our last day of the vacation of my dreams- it dawned on me that those same, “larger” legs I saw in the photo were the same ones that carried me through my 10th full marathon in Madrid- only days before, the same legs that carried me through half marathon #173 this past Sunday. This body- which I’ve been thinking isn’t so perfect- has carried me through more than 10,000 miles of running in the last 6 years.

I realized that any SECOND I’m not spending loving, appreciating, and valuing ME- and those things that make ME so unique and special- is a terrible SHAME. And total nonsense!!! CHOOSE to LOVE YOURSELF. Setting goals to improve and enhance ourselves- FOR ourselves and those we love- in a very healthy way- is very different than constantly rejecting ourselves because we want to be more like other people.

Comparision is the great robber of joy. Ask yourself: “What are MY unique talents and gifts? Do I celebrate those enough? Am I proud of those?”. When we love and accept who we TRULY ARE- not what we THINK we ought to be, or should be, or are supposed to be- something really magical happens for us.
