It’s already been ONE WEEK since I launched my first book, the 7 V.I.R.T.U.E.S. of Exceptional Leaders! Paperbacks are now available on Amazon- I’d LOVE to know what you’d think.

Many of you have asked if I learned anything through this process of writing and publishing a bestselling book. YES.

Here’s my TOP FIVE:

1) You HAVE to believe in yourself and your goals for them to work. If you don’t FULLY believe in yourself, then you’ll never have the resolve to fully pursue your dreams. You MUST believe with no uncertainty that whatever you’re setting out to do CAN and WILL be done.

2) Watch your language. If you have a goal, it’s important that you ANNOUCE it (at least to yourself), by saying things such as: “I WILL do this. I am GOING to do this. This is GOING to happen”. Leave no room for confusion. Don’t say: “I’d LIKE to do that” or “I’ll TRY”.

3) Identify 1-2 action steps you can take- and TAKE THEM. Don’t worry if you don’t have it all figured out. Don’t worry if you don’t have a plan for the whole thing. Start small. Find 1-2 things you can do- immediately- to get you one step closer to your goal, and DO THEM.

4) Enlist help. Find people who have done what you want to do and leverage them. Find the research. Read the books. Find tools and resources to aid you. Do NOT go it alone. There are too many experts out there in whatever field you’re looking to develop in for you NOT to ask for help. Don’t be timid or prideful. Don’t feel that you’re not as competent if you need help. Ask.

5) Recognize that other people might try to dissuade you. Others might tell you it can’t be done. Don’t take their risk-adverse advice personally. Know that these attempts to throw you off course probably are more about THEM than YOU. Their comments might stem from THEIR fear of change, THEIR desire to protect you and keep you safe, or THEIR disappointment with themselves for not pursuing aggressive goals. Develop a strong inner-voice that can withstand criticism of others. Commit to following your own heart.
