“But…it’s SO HARD! It was supposed to be EASY!!!”.
Has anyone ever said this to you? An employee? Your kid? Your spouse?
All too often we forget that success is supposed to involve some PAIN. And, that most things worth fighting for ARE hard, challenging, difficult. In other words- they come with some PAIN.
Today, I share the 6th “P” of Personal Power- and that’s PAIN. Our success is largely influenced by the relationship we choose to develop with PAIN. One of my favorite quotes is that “pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional”. I couldn’t agree with this more.
When we choose to LEAN INTO pain- and handle it- we allow ourselves to push through tough moments and get to the other side. When we think its “supposed to be easy” and we don’t respect the tough moments- we suffer unnecessarily- and sometimes give up, or quit, entirely. When we’re pursuing something new or working to transform some aspect of our lives- there can be a lot of pain. Difficult conversations. Those awkward feelings that come when you try something for the first time and quite frankly, stink at it. Finding out you made a mistake, or even failed. Getting rejected. Getting turned down. Sacrificing time with family and friends. Not seeing the results you wanted and having to make a decision to keep going or holding back. Much of it is PAINFUL.
But, you have a choice. You can choose to stay, and see it through. You can choose to embrace this pain. Or you can choose to suffer. Believing that you’re going to have transformation without any PAIN is just nonsense though, and a surefire way to quit or give up.
